About CELA

Our Mission

We support educators to advance the profession of landscape architecture.

Our Vision

The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) envisions a future where landscape architecture education thrives as a force for positive change, fostering innovative, sustainable, and inclusive design principles. Committed to advancing excellence, we empower educators, practitioners, and students to shape resilient and transformative landscapes. Together, we champion the highest standards in teaching, learning, and professional growth, inspiring the next generation to push the boundaries of what is possible in landscape architecture.

About CELA

The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture is composed of virtually all the programs of higher learning in landscape architecture in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. There are also individual and institutional members from many other parts of the world who belong to the CELA family.

All members of the faculties from these institutions are invited to participate in CELA, as are others who possess an interest in the academic practice of landscape architecture. The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture can trace its beginnings to 1920, and for more than ninety years, it has been concerned with the content and quality of professional education in landscape architecture.

CELA publishes the highest quality research conducted in the profession through
its peer-reviewed publication, Landscape Journal.

About the CELA Annual Conference

CELA’s annual conferences focus on recent research and scholarship in all aspects of landscape architecture. Members of the academic community, as well as others, submit abstracts for peer review which, when accepted, are presented at the annual conferences. The officers of CELA serve on a purely voluntary basis with elections for leadership positions held annually.
