Landscape Journal, the official journal of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), is proud to welcome James LaGro, Jr. as our Editor-in-Chief effective June 1, 2021. He succeeds Interim Editor Katherine Melcher. CELA would like to thank Ms. Melcher for all her work on behalf of the journal.
Dr. LaGro is a full professor in the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before earning his Ph.D. in natural resource policy and planning, he practiced landscape architecture in Switzerland, Florida, and New York. He earned his MLA and PhD degrees from Cornell University.
With 30 years of multidisciplinary experience in higher education, his scholarship includes textbooks, journal articles, book chapters, and an assortment of essays, policy briefs, reports, and op-eds. His research focuses on the structure and function of the built environment, and on the causes and consequences of landscape change.
His work has been published in Landscape Journal, Landscape and Urban Planning, Journal of Environmental Planning and Management, Journal of Social Sciences, and Landscape Ecology.
On his new role with Landscape Journal, LaGro says,
“I am honored to serve CELA as Landscape Journal’s inaugural Editor-in-Chief. As a critical conduit for scholarship in landscape architecture, Landscape Journal is poised to extend its reach and international impact. This potential is what excites me about this opportunity. In collaboration with the Associate Editors and Editorial Board, I look forward to guiding Landscape Journal’s growth and development in the coming years.”
