LAAB Updates for World Landscape Architecture Month

CELA (Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture)

Good afternoon Program Chairs –

Happy World Landscape Architecture Month! I hope this email continues to find you all healthy and safe. Below is lots of useful information for you and your students. Please pass along where appropriate.

Landscape Architecture STEM Case Studies – ASLA publishes case studies highlighting 13 landscape architecture projects that demonstrate how STEM practice areas are comprehensively employed throughout the profession. We’re encouraging stakeholders to utilize the case studies, the LA STEM one pager, or the LA STEM PowerPoint presentation as part of our ongoing efforts to continue to push LA as a STEM profession. All of those documents can be found on the ASLA Stem page, www.asla.org/STEM. Thank you ASLA Committee on Education for all the hard work and effort to get this project published!

ASLA Student Awards Deadline Extended to May 31 – Registration and submission deadlines for the ASLA 2020 Student Awards extended to Friday, May 15 and Sunday, May 31, respectively.

ASLA continues World Landscape Architecture Month virtually with its Life Grows Here campaign. I’ve created some education-focused cards for you to download, share, and use and am asking you and your students to participate! Share any photos, tweets and videos with me so that ASLA National can re-share. Attached are two examples from Kansas State University!

Federal and State Legislative Priorities Survey – Through May 15, complete THIS SURVEY and let ASLA know what your federal legislative needs are for the academic community.

LAM Careers On Pause article highlighting the challenge students and graduates will face as they close out an academic year during COVID-19. It features the Boston ASLA Chapter and University of Massachusetts panel discussion, which is now available online for any of your students/graduates to view.

LAM Calling: What’s Next – Landscape Architecture Magazine is seeking landscape architects and designers to participate in an upcoming feature on the future after COVID-19. Students, emerging professionals, educators, mid-career, and firm leadership will be asked to envision how the practice and profession might look different after the crisis abates. Participants may comment on or off the record and need not be ASLA members to contribute. To participate, please fill out the SURVEY LINK by Wednesday, April 22 by 5:00 p.m.

Dear L.A.R.E.y – Taking the Exam in Uncertain Times – FAQs regarding LARE Exam tips and best practice to share with students and/or graduates of your program.

Finally, LAAB would like to support programs anyway we possibly can, particularly regarding accreditation standards, online delivery method, sharing best practices, and supporting the students’ educational experience. If there are specific topics you would like to see covered in webinars or certain questions or concerns you have that we can try and find answers for you, please email Kristopher Pritchard at kpritchard@asla.org.
